Here’s What to Expect from the Samsung Galaxy S24 Series

The Samsung Galaxy S24 series, consisting of the standard model, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus, and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, is scheduled for release next year. Even though the Samsung S23 lineup is already acknowledged as one of the top smartphones available, initial reports suggest that the new additions to the S series will further enhance battery life and mobile performance. Here is everything we currently know about this exciting lineup:

Launch date
Samsung’s S23 lineup was unveiled during the Galaxy Unpacked event in February 2023. Similarly, the S22 lineup entered the market in February last year. Hence, it is highly likely that Samsung will adhere to this pattern for their upcoming models, projecting a launch event in February 2024. However, the phones will be available for purchase only in the subsequent weeks.

Will there be multiple iterations?
Samsung has adhered to its strategy of offering multiple models for years. Hence, according to speculations, it is highly probable that Samsung will launch at least two variations of the Samsung S24 model – the Samsung Galaxy S24 base model and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra edition. Some experts have proposed the elimination of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus variant to establish a distinction between the Ultra and base versions.

Design
In 2023, Samsung upgraded the appearance of the S series after two years. The latest design unified all the phones in the lineup, featuring rear camera cutouts, squared-off edges, and similar color options. Looking ahead to 2024, we do not think Samsung will include any significant design overhauls, given their tendency for gradual changes. However, one may find some subtle modifications. The Samsung Galaxy S24, Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus, and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra may resemble their S23 counterparts.

We may see a potential enhancement in the form of display technology. Reports suggest that the upcoming Galaxy S phones might adopt the 13th generation (M13) high-performance OLED panels. These panels offer advantages like being slimmer and more energy-efficient than the M12 screens anticipated for the iPhone 15.

Rumors also hint at a frame material alteration for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. In the Ultra variant, Samsung may incorporate a titanium alloy frame. Interestingly, despite titanium’s heavyweight nature, the reports claim the phone’s weight to be around 233 grams, a mere one-gram reduction from the current Ultra model.

Software
The One UI 6 Beta release built upon Android 14 became official for the Galaxy S23 series in August. We hope for a stable upgrade for the three S23 variants, Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5. Upon its launch, the S24 series will come pre-installed with either One UI 6 or possibly One UI 6.1. As part of this new update, one might find several fresh features that amplify the Android 14 experience, encompassing revamped quick settings and an upgraded default font. It marks a significant advancement for Samsung’s user interface.

Specifications
One of the most anticipated features of the Galaxy S24 is the chipset that it will use. With the launch of the Galaxy S23, Samsung changed its strategy and used Qualcomm Snapdragon chips in all versions instead of using different chipsets for different regions.

The shift was well-received, as it took away the issue of inferior Exynos chipsets in certain regions. But the question arises – Will Samsung continue this approach or revert to its previous habits? Rumor mills suggest a potential fallback on the older method, which is unfortunate.

Reports around the amount of RAM in S24 have been quite contradictory. However, a reliable source suggests an upgrade from the S23’s 8GB RAM to 12GB RAM for the Galaxy S24. Moreover, the base models will incorporate 256 GB of storage, a twofold increase from the Samsung Galaxy S23 base model capacity.

Beyond the above-stated changes, we do not have concrete information about the novel additions to the Samsung Galaxy S24’s camera or display setup. Hence, it is reasonable to anticipate a comparable arrangement, including a 12MP ultra-wide lens, 50MP primary camera, 12MP front-facing camera setup, 10MP telephoto lens, and a rapid 120Hz AMOLED display.

Price
We have no clarity on the specific pricing details, but we do not anticipate any significant deviations from the S23 range. The starting cost for the base model S23 is $800, whereas the Plus variant costs $1000, and the Ultra model costs $1200. The Galaxy S Series encompasses diverse models tailored to various budget considerations, a strategy consistently employed by Samsung across most iterations of their phones. Broadly, the pricing of the new Samsung Galaxy X Fold 5 and Flip 5 remain unchanged from last year, hinting that Samsung may maintain its pricing approach sans significant alterations.
